License and Insurance

Missouri does not issue a statewide HVAC contractor license. Licensing is municipal — St. Louis County issues mechanical contractor licenses for unincorporated areas and incorporated municipalities that have not adopted their own licensing, and several cities within our service area maintain separate business registration requirements. Purisync Heating and Air holds every license, registration, and certification required to perform residential and light-commercial HVAC work across our six-city service area, carries general liability and workers’ compensation coverage that exceeds the minimum required by municipal contractor ordinances, and pulls permits on every installation through the applicable authority having jurisdiction.

St. Louis County Mechanical Contractor License

Purisync operates under St. Louis County Mechanical Contractor License #MC-2014-08439-STL, current and in good standing with the St. Louis County Department of Public Works. The license covers commercial and residential mechanical work in unincorporated St. Louis County and in incorporated municipalities that have adopted St. Louis County licensing reciprocity, including Affton and Sappington (which are unincorporated communities within St. Louis County).

Verification: the license can be verified through the St. Louis County Department of Public Works Code Enforcement section, accessible at (314) 615-8530 during business hours. The license number and current status appear on every quote, invoice, and work order we issue.

Kirkwood Business Registration

Purisync is registered with the City of Kirkwood as a business operating from 325 N Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood, MO 63122 under Business Registration #BL-2014-1187, current and in good standing with Kirkwood Public Works (314) 822-5800. Kirkwood-specific licensing for HVAC work piggybacks on the St. Louis County Mechanical Contractor License under municipal reciprocity. The Kirkwood business registration covers our commercial operating presence within the city.

Other Municipal Permitting Authorities

HVAC installation work in our service area cities is permitted through:

  • Kirkwood Public Works — 139 S Kirkwood Rd, Kirkwood, MO 63122; (314) 822-5800. Permits required for furnace replacement, AC replacement, ductwork modification, gas line work, and electrical service changes related to HVAC.
  • St. Louis County Department of Public Works — 41 S Central Ave, Clayton, MO 63105; (314) 615-8530. Permits required for unincorporated St. Louis County including Affton and Sappington.
  • Webster Groves Public Works — 4 E Lockwood Ave, Webster Groves, MO 63119; (314) 963-5300.
  • Crestwood Public Works — 1 Detjen Dr, Crestwood, MO 63126; (314) 729-4790.
  • Town and Country Public Works — 1011 Municipal Center Dr, Town and Country, MO 63131; (314) 432-6606.

We pull every required permit ourselves — it’s included in the install quote, not billed separately. Permit costs are itemized on the written quote so customers see exactly what the municipal authority charges.

EPA Section 608 Universal Certification

Federal law (EPA 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F) requires technician certification for any person handling refrigerants subject to the AIM Act. Purisync’s certification number is #608U-2014-385721, covering Type I (small appliances), Type II (high-pressure systems including residential air conditioning and heat pumps), Type III (low-pressure systems), and Universal (combined). The certification covers handling of R-22 (legacy systems still in field service), R-410A (transition refrigerant being phased down), R-454B (current AIM Act compliant residential refrigerant, GWP 466), and R-32 (alternative AIM Act compliant residential refrigerant, GWP 675).

Every Purisync technician holds individual EPA Section 608 Universal certification. We do not subcontract refrigerant work to uncertified handlers.

NATE Certifications

North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is the leading non-manufacturer technical certification program in the HVAC industry. Our technician team holds:

  • James Eason — NATE Air Conditioning Service, NATE Air Distribution, NATE Gas Heating Service (ID #4587921)
  • Marcus Pulliam — NATE Air Conditioning Service, NATE Heat Pump Service, NATE Gas Heating Service
  • Daniel Ortega — NATE Air Distribution, NATE Air Conditioning Service
  • Brandon Reeves — NATE Air Distribution

General Liability Insurance

Purisync carries commercial general liability insurance through Cincinnati Insurance Company (NAIC #10677, A+ AM Best rating). Coverage limits exceed the minimum required by St. Louis County contractor licensing:

  • Per-occurrence limit: $1,000,000
  • General aggregate limit: $2,000,000
  • Products-completed operations aggregate: $2,000,000
  • Personal and advertising injury: $1,000,000

The Cincinnati Insurance Company policy provides coverage for bodily injury and property damage arising from our HVAC work, products-completed operations coverage for warranty-period failures, and personal and advertising injury coverage. Certificates of insurance are available upon request and are typically provided automatically for commercial accounts at the time of service contract signing.

Workers’ Compensation Insurance

Workers’ compensation coverage is active for all Purisync employees through Missouri Employers Mutual (MEM), Missouri’s largest workers’ compensation insurer. Coverage is statutory under Missouri Workers’ Compensation Law (RSMo Chapter 287), which requires every employer with five or more employees to carry workers’ compensation insurance. Our policy covers medical expenses, lost wages, and disability benefits for any employee injured in the course of work.

The practical effect for customers: if a Purisync technician is injured on your property during service work, the medical and disability costs are covered by our workers’ compensation policy — not by your homeowners’ insurance. Contractors operating without workers’ compensation in Missouri can leave homeowners exposed to liability for technician injuries.

Vehicle Insurance

Commercial auto coverage is carried through Cincinnati Insurance Company on all Purisync service vehicles, with $1,000,000 combined single limit per occurrence. Coverage includes both bodily injury and property damage liability arising from operation of our service vehicles, plus collision and comprehensive coverage on the vehicles themselves.

Why Licensing and Insurance Matters for Customers

Unpermitted, unlicensed, or uninsured HVAC work creates measurable risk for homeowners:

  • Insurance disclosure obligations. Most homeowners’ insurance policies require disclosure of major mechanical modifications. Unpermitted HVAC work can void coverage in the event of an equipment-caused loss (fire, water damage, carbon monoxide incident).
  • Property sale disclosure. Missouri real estate transactions require sellers to disclose material defects and known unpermitted work. Unpermitted HVAC installations can become a transaction-blocking issue at inspection.
  • Worker injury liability. Without contractor workers’ compensation coverage, an uninsured technician injured on your property can pursue a claim against your homeowners’ insurance — often with the insurer subrogating the cost back to you as the property owner.
  • Code compliance enforcement. Kirkwood Public Works, St. Louis County, and other municipal authorities can require remediation of unpermitted work, including potential equipment removal and reinstallation, at the homeowner’s expense.
  • Warranty validity. Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Bryant, and other major manufacturers require warranty registration by a licensed contractor. Installations by unlicensed contractors void the manufacturer’s parts warranty regardless of equipment defect.
